IV Access Nurse

POSITION
Summary:
Under limited supervision, the Intravenous (IV) Access Nurse is responsible for coordinating vascular access needs of all patients, pediatric through geriatric.
Functions as a resource to the organization, meeting the needs and requests of the nursing and provider staff.
Responsible for assisting with the development of policies and procedures related to vascular access.
SCHEDULE:
This is a full-time, 36-hour per week position.
Day/evening shifts with every 3rd weekend rotation.
Essential Functions:
Clinical PracticeUtilizes clinical reasoning and sound judgement to evaluate the necessity for intravenous (IV) access and inserts IV using nursing skills as determined appropriate.
Inserts, troubleshoots, and maintains ultrasound guided vascular access devices on patients aged pediatric through adult.
Escalates clinical concerns appropriately to the primary nurse, provider, or Vascular Access team as needed.
Participates in development, implementation, and evaluation of quality improvement/performance improvement activities related to vascular access devices and patient quality and safety.
Provides assistance to individuals in a manner that respects their special circumstances, age-related and cultural-related needs.
CollaborationWorks collaboratively with providers, nurses, patients, and families to develop a patient centered plan for intravenous access, considering post-discharge needs.
Fosters an environment built on active collaboration with all clinicians, patients and families to provide the highest quality of care.
Incorporates principles of vascular management and appropriate device assessment and placement to provide appropriate, quality, and cost-effective care across the continuum.
Provides support, clinical expertise, and coaching to other health care personnel in managing difficult or complex patient vascular access issues, developing appropriate clinical indicators, and resource utilization issues.
Demonstrates ability to delegate in a bidirectional manner and verifies task completion.
Holds self, clinicians and peers accountable for meeting the standard of care.
LeadershipSupports organizational goal of providing vascular access services to patients and families across the care continuum.
Serves as a resource and point of contact for staff regarding vascular access therapy, IV assessment, products, and procedures.
Effectively utilizes collaboration, negotiation, and facilitation skills in interactions with all team members involved in the care of the client.
Accountable for professional practice; ensuring ongoing professional development to consistently demonstrate professional growth Develop, revise, and contribute to policies related to area of expertise.
Responsible for departmental coverage and collaboration to ensure appropriate staffing.
QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS:
Basic professional knowledge; equivalent to a Bachelor's degree; working knowledge of theory and practice within a specialized fieldBachelor's in Nursing (BSN) degree requiredNursing certification preferredAmerican Heart Association CPR (BLS) certificationActive Maryland Registered Nurse license (RN)Location:
