Laborer/Structural Helper Trainee
This is an entry level position in the marine structural area. At the WG-1 level, the official title is Laborer, at the WG-3, Structural Helper Trainee and at the WG-5, Structural Helper.Being a civilian working for the Coast Guard makes you a valuable team member. Typical duties include:
Assisting journeymen mechanics and workers with work that cannot be handled alone and entry level tasks Being taught on proper usage of power and hand tools common to the trade. National Service Experience (i.e., volunteer experience):
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.The Office of Personnel management (OPM) must authorize employment offers made to current or former political appointees. If you are currently, or have been within the last 5 years, a political Schedule A, Schedule, C, Non-career SES or Presidential Appointee employee in the Executive Branch, you must disclose this information to the Human Resources Office.Applicants will be evaluated on their ability to perform the duties of the position rather than the length of experience. Eligibility will be determined by the relevance, scope, and quality of all experience and training, regardless of where or how acquired.Applicants will be rated and ranked based on their knowledge of the following job elements:
1. Likelihood of success in assignments which require interest, motivation, and readiness to do simple work (SCREENOUT)2. Ability to handle weights and loads3. Ability to follow oral directions4. Dexterity and safetyNational Service Experience (i.e., volunteer experience):
