You will provide a broad range of accounting services and will be responsible for preparing, analyzing, interpreting submitting financial statements and financial reports, at the full performance level. At the lower levels you will have greater supervision.Being a civilian working for the Coast Guard makes you a valuable team member. Typical duties include:
Developing new or tailoring existing reports. Interpreting financial policies and directives to accurately prepare and submit financial statements and monthly financial reports. Participating in financial working groups. Coordinating Yard responses to Headquarters requests for data to support the annual Chief Financial Officer (CFO) Audit effort. Participating in the design of new financial or mixed financial systems or the development of modifications to existing systems. Reviewing a large number of documents emanating from external sources (e.g., DHS, CGHQ, FINCEN, Treasury) and suggest changes in format or method of submission to improve financial operations. Basic Requirements:
An accounting degree or a related field such as business administration, finance, or public administration that included or was supplemented by 24 semester hours in accounting. The 24 hours may include up to 6 hours of credit in business law. ORCombination of education and experience - at least 4 years of experience in accounting, or an equivalent combination of accounting experience, college level education, and training that provided professional accounting knowledge. The applicant's background must also include one of the following:
1) 24 semester hours in accounting or auditing courses of appropriate type and quality. This can include up to 6 hours of business law;2) A certificate as Certified Public Accountant or a Certified Internal Auditor, obtained through written examination; or3) Completion of the requirements for a degree that included substantial course work in accounting or auditing, e.g., 15 semester hours, but that does not fully satisfy the 24 semester hour requirement of the basic requirements, provided that (a) the applicant has successfully demonstrated the ability to perform work of the GS-11 or higher grade level in accounting, auditing, or a related field, e.g., valuation engineering or financial institution examining; (b) a panel of at least two higher level professional accountants or auditors has determined that the applicant has demonstrated a good knowledge of accounting and of related and underlying fields that equals in breadth, depth, currency, and level of advancement that which is normally associated with successful completion of the 4 year course of study described in the basic requirements; and (c) except for literal nonconformance to the requirement of 24 semester hours in accounting, the applicant's education, training, and experience fully meet the specified requirements.In addition to the basic requirements:
Applicants must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-7 for the GS-9 level and GS-9 for the GS-11 level) in the Federal service.At the GS-7 level applicants may substitute 1 full year of graduate level education or superior academic achievement OR a combination of experience and education.At the GS-9 level applicants may sustitute 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education or master's or equivalent graduate degree OR a combination of education and experience.At the GS-11 level, applicants may substitute 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education or Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree OR a combination of experience and education.Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work.National Service Experience (i.e., volunteer experience):
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
