Critical Care Ground Transport Nurse (RN)
Job Description This position will work out of Harbor Hospital.
General Summary of Position Independently assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates the nursing care of patients with are range of need from uncomplicated to highly complex, in transport and in the Emergency Department.
In collaboration with the patient and family, provides theory-based professional nursing care and coordinates care delivery with the physician and other members of the healthcare team.
Qualifications EDUCATION:
Graduation from and accredited educational program in professional nursing.
Experience:
3 years of Critical Care nursing experience.
LICENSE/CERT/REG:
Valid RN license in the state of Maryland at time of hire and the District of Columbia within 30 days of hire.
Must have current ACLS, PALS, CPR upon hire.
Must obtain CCRN, CFRN, or CTRN within 180 days of hire.
SKILLS:
Demonstrated ability to precept.
Demonstrated high level of clinical competence.
Effective interpersonal skills, including verbal and written communication.
Basic math skills.
Basic computer skills preferred.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities Collaborates with on line medical control physicians to manage the patient care of complex patients in transport.
Communicates patient's clinical information clearly and accurately in verbal and written format.
Clearly and accurately documents pertinent information in the patient's medical record.
Consistently demonstrates effective documentation practices and develops strategies to ensure complete documentation of patient care.
Contributes to the achievement of established department goals and objectives and adheres to department policies, procedures, quality standards and safety standards.
Complies with governmental and accreditation regulations.
Delivers expert nursing care in ambulances and the Emergency Department to multiple patient types to include adult subspecialties, pediatrics, and high risk obstetrics.
Identifies current and potential complex problems of a specific patient population, critically analyzes trends and changes in patient status, and plans appropriate interventions directly or indirectly through other nurses.
Assesses needs of patients with highly complex problems.
Documents all patient care activities in the electronic medical record.
Documents patient information in a manner that reflects the ability to integrate the nursing assessment data, pathophysiology of disease processes, and the therapeutic regimen into an appropriate evaluation of the patient status.
Demonstrates the initiative to seek out current nursing research findings that address patient care issues, and communicates relevant research findings to staff.
Maintains a safe and therapeutic environment of caring for patients and families.
Provides basic patient comfort measures during procedures.
When necessary, provides environmental support to expedite timely patient admission or transfer.
Identifies and acts upon opportunities to improve the environment of care.
Participates in MedSTAR Transport safety program.
Participates in multidisciplinary quality and service improvement teams as appropriate.
Participates in meetings, serves on committees and represents the department and hospital/facility in community outreach efforts as appropriate.
Participates in the orientation program for new staff.
Provides direct patient care and evaluates outcomes, based on assessment of physical, emotional, biophysical, and spiritual needs.
Incorporates the principles of patient-centered care.
Provides feedback and participates in program safety initiatives as part of the program's safety management system.
Provides for the emotional support of patients and families during the crisis of illness.
Demonstrates patient/family advocacy.
Seeks opportunities to participate in developing/revising standards of practice to meet changing patient population requirements.
In coordinating the delivery of patient care, delegates activities to unlicensed staff in accordance with system policies, principles of Patient-Centered Care, and the Maryland Nurse Practice Act.
Supervises the performance of the delegated nursing task by the unlicensed staff.
Assists staff in delegation/time management skills.
Identifies ways to facilitate working relationships among all levels of staff.
