Surgical Technologist II

Job Summary Performs a variety of technical duties to assist with surgery.
Provides expert services in at least one specialty area.
Assists with precepting of staff and students.
Minimum Qualifications Education/Training High school graduation or equivalent; graduation from a school of surgical technology or hospital-based program.
Experience 1 year surgical technologist experience License/Certification/Registration BLS (Basic Life Support) certification.
Must maintain 6 Continuing Education Creditsper year.
CST (Certified Surgical Technologist) certification preferred.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Competency in case procedure, preparation and completion in all services.
Expert in at least one specialty surgical service.
Verbal and written communication skills.
Basic computer skills preferred.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities Anticipates sequential needs of the surgeon during the operative procedure.
Assists with case preparation, following preference card guidelines.
Collaborates with Resource Nurse and Perioperative Educator on the development and provision ofcompetency based orientation for the scrub role in team specific service.
Precepts staff and students on scrubrole.
Contributes to the achievement of established department goals and objectives and adheres to departmentpolicies, procedures, quality standards and safety standards.
Complies with governmental and accreditationregulations.
Ensures that equipment is functioning properly.
Immediately identifies and troubleshoots equipment problemswithin specialty area and/or notifies appropriate personnel.
Functions as a technical resource person for OR staff by providing Information relating to instruments andequipment and assists in planning and maintenance of the equipment, particularly in area of expertise.
Functions as surgical assistant during operative procedures performing specified activities under the directsupervision of the surgeon.
May act as second assistant by providing exposure and holding retractors.
Identifies and handles specimens appropriately.
In conjunction with other team members, provides one in-service per year in related specialty area.
Maintains aseptic techniques; actively monitors situations that could lead to breaches in aseptic technique.
Participates in meetings and on committees and represents the department and hospital in communityoutreach efforts as required.
Serves as a contributing member on unit-based committees.
Participates in multidisciplinary quality and service improvement teams.
Performs indirect patient care activities such as patient transportation as needed.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Provides comfort and support for preoperative patients by demonstrating sensitivity to patient's care andprivacy.
Responds to questions from patient, families, and significant others in a prompt, courteous, positive, andknowledgeable manner and/or refers to appropriate personnel.

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
