Lifestyle Interventionist

Work Schedule/Hours: Monday-Thursday, 8am-5:50pm Friday or Alternate Saturday 8am-12pm (1 or 2 Saturdays per month) 40 hrs.
The Interventionist has duties and responsibilities related to the implementation of a large, international, multi-center, clinical trial on the effects of moderate alcohol consumption on cardiovascular health in middle age and older adults (MACH15) at ProHealth, a Hopkins-affiliated clinical research center. The primary responsibilities will be twofold: (1) designing and implementing the MACH15 intervention at ProHealth (2) enrolling participants and facilitating retention. Specific types of work include: conduct screening and randomization visits, help with a motivational assessment prior to randomization, ensuring the provision of alcoholic beverages among participants assigned to the intervention arm (e.g. setting store accounts), monitoring adherence from various sources (purchases, automated monitoring system, participant self-reports), and making phone calls to follow up if automated contacts attempts are not working or if other concerning information is gathered.
In addition, per protocol she/he will conduct in person and telephone contacts with participants in both arms of the study throughout the duration of the study and will provide individual behavioral adherence counseling as needed. The Interventionist will work with an established, excellent research team at Johns Hopkins and across other MACH15 clinical sites. The Interventionist will receive training in behavioral health coaching in general and in particular areas relevant for this study (lifestyle modification). The Interventionist will collaborate with a well-known expert behavioral interventionist to facilitate participants maintaining adherence to the assigned intervention. The Interventionist will also work with the rest of the study team on duties related to the general conduct of the study and will display responsible behaviors, communicate effectively with others, and function as a member of the research team. The Interventionist must demonstrate competency in all skills related to participant education, counseling, and the lifestyle intervention.

Responsibilities:
Conducts screening and randomization visits.Prior to randomization of participants conducts motivational assessments.Coordinates intervention logistics to ensure participants assigned to the moderate consumption intervention arm receive/purchase alcoholic beverages.Routinely monitors adherence from various sources and initiates adherence counseling following an established protocol when problems with adherence are identified.Leads individual counseling sessions (phone call or in person) with focus on adherence to the intervention following an established protocol.Assists in developing and writing participant materials related to adherence to the intervention.Prepares and distributes intervention materials, flyers, and phone contact to participants.Develops and maintains clinical site intervention tracking logs and spreadsheets.Ensures intervention participant information data is collected and recorded appropriately. Participates in Team meetings.Actively accepts new responsibilities.Participates in performance improvement activities. Provides back up in other studies, if needed. Other duties as assigned.
