What You Will Do:

UMMS is currently seeking a Payroll Supervisor for our Corporate location.
Under limited supervision, supervise the day to day operations of the corporate Kronos office according to federal and state regulations as well as established UMMS policies and procedures.
The following statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by people assigned to this classification. They are not to be construed as an exhaustive list of all job duties performed by personnel so classified.
1. Supervise the day to day operations of the UMMS Kronos system and associated staff that are responsible for the accurate and timely recording of employee time and appropriate miscellaneous pay codes in accordance with UMMS policies and various governmental regulations.
2. Supervise the operations of the UMMS Kronos office applying HR and payroll policies and procedures as well as federal, state and local labor laws or regulations governing the recording of time worked and related pay treatment.
3. Supervise all Kronos staff for multiple processes and pay rules for each UMMS entity. Monitors work to ensure effective and efficient departmental functions as directed by the Director. In collaboration with the Director, hires and trains new staff members, conducts performance evaluations and handles corrective action issues.
A. Provides input to Manager on staffing issues and developmental needs for the departments.
B. Conducts new employee orientation and training as needed.
C. Establishes clear and concise work procedures and expectations, assessing performance levels by monitoring results and providing positive and constructive feedback.
D. Maintains adequate staffing levels to assure optimal provision of services by implementing and/or preparing employee work schedules.
4. Ensures Kronos time records are passed to the Lawson payroll system accurately and timely to prevent delay in the processing of payroll.
5. Monitors the timeliness and efficiency of the Kronos system to ensure that the system meet the needs of UMMS employees in accordance with established department standards, practices and procedures.
6. Provides guidance and direction and assists the Kronos staff in handling difficult questions/problems related to timekeeping activities. Resolves conflicts with employees and other functional areas concerning timekeeping issues.
7. Communicates regularly with various hospital departments and system support to resolve Kronos issues of concern and identify improvement opportunities.
8. Maintains and provides acceptable records and support documents for all internal and external auditors.
9. Attends in-service training and various educational programs for professional growth and development. Stays abreast of federal and state regulatory changes, i.e. tax and labor laws pertaining to pay practices,

What You Need to Be Successful:
1. Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance or an equivalent related field OR a combination of education and experience may be considered.
2. Two (2) years of lead/supervisory responsibility, preferably overseeing the work of payroll staff is required.
3. Five (5) years progressively responsible experience performing payroll accounting work. Experience in budget management is preferred.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
1. Proficiency with spreadsheet and database software is required. Knowledge of state and federal tax laws and federal labor laws related to pay practices is required. Demonstrated knowledge of general accounting principles is required. Knowledge of Kronos and Lawson systems strongly desired.
2. Proficient mathematical skills are required, including calculating percentages, addition, subtraction, and multiplication, using a calculator or related equipment as appropriate or otherwise be able to manipulate numbers.
3. Ability to operate a personal computer with working knowledge of the keyboard configuration. Ability to operate routine office equipment and photocopier.
4. Proficient supervisory and management skills are required in order to monitor and audit daily work activities, develop and implement efficient work processes, evaluate, train and motivate the performance of subordinate staff.
5. Proficient customer service skills are required. Proficient problem-solving skills are required to successfully resolve difficult payroll-related discrepancies for the common good.
6. Highly effective verbal and written communication and listening skills are required to work effectively with various supervisory, management and administrative staff throughout the organization.

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
