The primary goal of the Youth Peer Recovery Specialist (PRS) position is to work in collaboration with the mobile crisis team to provide behavioral health services including, brief crisis intervention, de-escalation, crisis planning, case management and support on maintaining wellness and recovery.
In this role the YPRS will also assist with community outreach and training focused on behavioral health education, prevention, and early intervention.
In order to support this goal, the following objectives/responsibilities are expected:
Respond to low-level crisis situations (i.
e.
wellness check, follow-up to provide support/resources) with two peer response specialist team.
These crises do not warrant a clinician or nurse co-responder team.
Work with the youth in crisis to develop a crisis plan, provide linkages to care and introduce other crisis planning tools to the individual as needed.
Work with all members of the team to facilitate engagement of the youth in crisis and helping them feel welcome and comfortable Work with youths in crisis to assist with continuity of care by giving them mental health, addiction, peer recovery supports and other needed resources.
Assist with providing case management support and linkages to care Assist with Critical Incident Debriefing activities and promote the expansion of this valuable resource Provide education and outreach activities to community stakeholders promoting access to BCRI services 988 and 911 Diversion Participate in community health fairs and other community events/meetings representing BCRI Work closely with Behavioral Health Systems Baltimore (BHSB) to broaden their community engagement agenda for 2023, focusing on general education, prevention, and resource linkage Maintains professional boundaries with clients, staff and other outside agencies Builds relationships with addiction, mental health and homeless outreach providers, peer recovery supports and other community resources Empower youth to become self-advocates for their own recovery/wellness Maintains professional open, effective, and appropriate communication with clients, BCRI staff, management, outside agencies and the public Completes all required trainings by the scheduled due date and maintain compliance to all BCRI policies and procedures Additional Requirements - Provide direct care and supervision to youth in a residential setting - Implement and follow established systems and protocols for youth behavior management - Utilize motivational interviewing techniques to engage and support youth in their personal growth and development - Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to create and implement individualized treatment plans - Maintain accurate and timely documentation of all interactions and intervention This position requires a strong commitment to the well-being of youth and the ability to provide compassionate care while maintaining professional boundaries.
