Located in downtown Baltimore near the Inner Harbor and Camden Yards, you won't find a more vibrant place to work! Job Description Under direct supervision, appropriately addresses preparation and routing for laboratory testing in any one of various specialized laboratories throughout UMMS:
Immunology, Rapid Response (Chemistry/Hematology), Blood Bank, Microbiology, Virology, Molecular Diagnostics, UMCC Laboratories and Shock Trauma Stat Lab, in accordance with departmental procedures and regulations stipulated by Clinical Laboratory Improvement Act.
Principal Responsibilities and Tasks The following statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by people assigned to this classification.
They are not to be construed as an exhaustive list of all job duties performed by personnel so classified.
Receives and accessions patient samples into the Laboratory Information System.
Ensures that all codes and information are entered accurately and timely.
Maintains accurate patient identification and information for billing purposes following departmental procedures.
Accessions, processes and arranges delivery of specimens according to departmental procedures.
Acts as the Expeditor for specimen management.
Coordinates specimen and order processing and ensures specimens are processed and delivered to the testing or problem solving areas in timely manner.
Evaluates specimen integrity.
Ensures specimens are adequate for testing:
volume, hemolysis; correct collection tube, etc.
Answers telephones and responds to customer inquiries and requests.
Qualifications Education and Experience High school diploma or equivalent.
One year of customer service experience is preferred.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Effective organizational and communication skills required.
Ability to perform basic mathematical operations.
Basic computer knowledge.
Must be able to perform duties accurately and with attention to detail.
