The Support Counselor is a direct support position working with youth diagnosed with Autism.
The position is responsible for implementing the assigned participants' treatment plan, working with the participant and their family to improve socialization, self-help and communication skills.
The Support Counselor will work with assigned participant(s) in the community and the participant's home.
Essential Duties and
Responsibilities:
Communicate with participants, families, professional staff and community members in a person-centered manner.
Develop a positive working relationship with assigned participant(s) and families.
Treat the participant's goals as their own, working with the participant's team to help participant achieve goals.
Assisting the participant with personal care tasks that they cannot do independently such as toileting, bathing, dressing, etc.
To actively participate in both staff and interdisciplinary team meetings.
Work cooperatively with other Youth Autism Services staff to support participants.
Actively participate in monthly (quarterly at minimum) observation/supervision sessions with the assigned Family Consultant.
Facilitate building participant's self-esteem through positive interactions.
Plan and initiate age-appropriate community activities.
Communicate participant and programmatic needs with the Program Manager.
Contact supervisor if ever unable to fulfill a scheduled shift; this must occur prior to informing the family that you are unable to serve their child.
Be knowledgeable about and effectively communicate the individualized needs of your assigned participants.
Document participant(s) progress utilizing our web-based software.
Submit all documentation by the required timeframes (i.
e.
, timesheets, transportation logs, progress notes, etc.
) Follow all agency and program specific policies and procedures.
Non-Essential Duties and
Responsibilities:
Additional responsibilities as assigned by the Youth Autism Services management team.

Requirements:
Minimum age of 18.
Access to a reliable automobile and a valid driver's license with no more than 3 points.
Ability to lift participants up to 50 lbs.
in accordance with established safe lifting procedures.
Educational and/or
Experience:
Minimum of 100 hours experience working with people with developmental disabilities, specifically those with Autism Spectrum Disorder.
High School diploma required, BS in therapeutic recreation or related field preferred.
