00/hourly Baltimore City Department of Recreation and Parks, Bureau of Parks is seeking dependable and qualified individuals to fill part-time non-civil service positions as STEM Maker Foundations Instructors to develop and deliver after-school/evening classes for youth.

Individuals selected for this position will be required to pass a drug & alcohol screening, a criminal background check, and receive clearance from Child Protective Services prior to being appointed.
Position Description Rec2Tech University is a professional and leadership development experience designed to engage instructors in the design and delivery of a Maker Foundations course.
Funded by a National Science Foundation (NSF) grant and sponsored by Digital Harbor Foundation (DHF) and UMBC, the Maker Foundations Instructors will serve as the key mentors and coaches for youth interested in maker-based (makerspace) technology and computer science programs.
Individuals will support youth (ages 10-16) in discovering and developing their potential through technology and maker activities at two recreation centers in Baltimore City.
Maker Foundations Instructors will develop and deliver a Maker Foundations course focused on the following learning modules:
Intro to Making, Game Design, Graphic Design, Electronics, 3D Printing, and Web Design/EPortfolio.
While technical training and support will be provided, instructors will be responsible for content development, lesson planning, and instruction.
Maker Foundations Instructors will focus on three key areas:
Teach - Prepare content and serve as a lead instructor for a Maker Foundations course while supporting students as makers, leaders, and learners.
Learn - Become trained as an educator, mentor, and coach for Maker Based (makerspace) Technology/Computer Science programs.
Contribute - Assist with program improvement and curriculum development by participating in feedback sessions, focus groups, and managing youth survey data.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities Content Development Learn software for each class module (ie:
Tinkercad, Scratch, Wix, Google Slides, Makey Makey).
Develop module plans and daily lessons using lesson seeds, resources, and feedback provided by Digital Harbor Foundation.
Program Delivery and Instruction Lead youth (10-16 years old) in technology and maker activities in after-school/evening classes.
Maintain appropriate behavioral management of a group of 15 to 20 program participants Ensure safety and productivity of participants Understand and adapt teaching strategies to accommodate a variety of learning styles and capabilities Assure that technology equipment is secured and kept in working order Complete daily tracking documents such as student attendance and instructor time sheet.
Ensure that interests and needs of participants are addressed and communicated in a timely manner to Rec2Tech Program Manager Continually develop professional skills in technology, youth development and current topics in technology and maker education Program Structure and Quality Participate in meetings with Digital Harbor Foundation and UMBC to discuss concerns and give feedback with the goal of improving program quality and personal performance.
Participate in focus groups, and interviews with UMBC and DHF to provide feedback on curriculum.
Distribute, collect, and manage survey data from youth participants.
Prepare daily lessons using Digital Harbor Foundation's lesson seeds by reviewing guides, using resources, preparing activities, and completing any necessary pre-class tasks, including but not limited to:
prototype creation, supply set-up, equipment checks, etc.
Outreach and Enrollment Develop and maintain strong, positive relationships with program participants and their families.
Assist in recruitment efforts for youth programs and events including, but not limited to presenting programs to families, handing out flyers, reaching out to partners such as schools and community associations.
Training and Professional Development Participate in regular team meetings with Rec2Tech team (DHF, UMBC, BCRP).
Participate in Rec2Tech training.
Administrative Support Complete and submit daily time entry Complete and submit daily attendance tracking.
Administer and collect end of session student surveys.
Other Other duties as assigned Knowledge and Skills Interest in learning and/or direct experience with STEM Ed, Tech Ed, and/or Maker Ed (makerspace) content.
Understanding of instructional practices and youth development.
Ability to work independently to develop daily lessons using lesson seeds provided by Digital Harbor Foundation.
Ability to prepare and lead professional development for peers.
Ability to accommodate a multitude of learning styles and differentiate instruction as needed.
Strong organizational skills and a flexible attitude.
Strong communication (written and oral), organizational, customer service, and interpersonal skills.
Proficient with the Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Google Suite (Docs, Sheets, Forms).
Minimum
Qualifications Education:
Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a GED certificate.
College, pursuing college, and/or equivalent experience preferred.
Experience:
One or more of the following experiences required:
Experience teaching or leading programs for K-12 students.
Experience teaching or leading programs for adults.
Experience in developing curriculum.
Experience with a specialized trade.
Experience developing programs, activities, and/or lessons specifically for STEM Ed, Tech Ed, or Maker Ed (makerspace) content not required, but a plus.

The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
