Clinical Laboratory Technician

Job SummaryCollects, processes, and may draw laboratory specimens.
Performs simple routine duties specific to assigned section.
Minimum QualificationsEducation/TrainingHigh school graduation or equivalent.
Experience1 year clinical laboratory experience preferred; specimen processing experience preferred but not required.
License/Certification/RegistrationNo special certification, registration or license required.
Knowledge, Skills & AbilitiesData entry and computer skills.
Verbal and written communication skills.
Primary Duties and ResponsibilitiesAnswers PEVCO tube system, receives specimens into the LIS, and delivers the specimens to the correct testing area in a timely fashion.
Assists with care and maintenance of department equipment (centrifuge, label printers, & laser printer).
Orders laboratory supplies and maintains supply inventories as directed.
Contributes to the achievement of established department goals and objectives and adheres to department policies, procedures, quality standards and safety standards.
Complies with governmental and accreditation regulations.
Maintains a clean, orderly work environment with regard to safety and biohazardous conditions.
Reports unsafe or hazardous conditions.
Monitors and retrieves messages from the Add-on line (voice mail) every two hours, and maintains the log of add-on information for verification.
Participates in meetings, on committees and represents the department and hospital in community outreach efforts.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Performs send out testing to reference laboratories and shared testing to other MedStar hospitals.
Monitors pending log and mails reports as needed.
Receives, accurately accesses, and delivers specimens according to established priorities, conforming to the procedures and within the given turnaround time.
Reviews requisitions from Calvert Outreach ensuring that correct tubes were drawn and all requested tests were ordered.
Screens visitors and telephone calls, takes messages, provides lab results and/or information, and refers calls as necessary.
Spins blood every morning.
Files serum in a well-organized manner, according to the last digit of the sample number.
Discards old specimens daily.

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
