Associate Director of Development

The Associate Director plans, implements and manages strategies for cultivation, solicitation and closure of major gifts for a comprehensive fundraising program for the Zanvyl Krieger School of Arts and Sciences (KSAS) of the Johns Hopkins University, focusing on individual, corporate and foundation prospects, and staffing the KSAS Dean and faculty along with the other development team members. This position resides within the KSAS Office of External Affairs at the School of Arts and Sciences and reports to the Senior Director of Development.
Responsibilities
Identify and evaluate giving potential of major and principal gift prospects through personal visits and engagement in the philanthropic priorities that advance and serve the School's mission.
Effectively plan and execute major and planned gift strategies to cultivate, solicit and steward individual major donors, and corporate and foundation prospects.
Conduct a minimum of 12-15 prospect visits per month to meet a goal of 140 visits per year.
Execute a minimum of 20-25 major gift solicitations of at least $100,000 and multiple annual gift solicitations per year to advance the school's priorities.
Develop a comprehensive understanding of the programs, research areas, and funding priorities of all aspects of the School of Arts and Sciences along with a general knowledge about the university.
Develop excellent relations with faculty leaders and department chairs in support of the School of Arts and Sciences' priorities, staffing department and center chairs and other senior KSAS administrators in appealing to all donors for KSAS.
Oversee research of individual prospects and proposal development.
Develop annual fundraising goals and objectives in consultation with the Senior Director of Development; creating a development plan to research and identify new prospects, make discovery calls, and build a prospect pool based on new prospects and past donors.
Schedule and arrange on-site and off-site meetings, visits, etc., with prospects; coordinate the participation of other KSAS representatives.
Provide stewardship reports to donors on behalf of KSAS and other university officials as needed.
Prepare major gift proposals, solicitation letters, and other cultivation and presentation materials for significant donors.
Advise donors on gift planning strategies to maximize institutional gift benefits and, when appropriate, work closely with the primary liaison for the Office of Gift Planning.
Seek and participate in opportunities to raise the profile of the School of Arts and Sciences.
Coordinate fundraising activities and prospect management with central development staff.
Serve as an integral part of the School of Arts and Sciences team with the Associate Dean, Senior Director of Development, and others; participate in divisional development meetings and retreats. Serve as the Office of External Affairs' liaison with selected academic departments, centers, and programs.
Work with each chair or director to determine fundraising opportunities for the department, center, or program.
