Gordian is seeking an experienced estimator to support our growth as a commercial solar EPC company.
This position will concentrate on solar power generation projects ranging from 100 kW to 15 MWs
in system size.
Estimators are responsible for reviewing bid requests and related agreements, then preparing and completing bid documents and cost estimates for solar construction projects.
This role requires strong written and verbal communication skills, attention to detail, analytical skills and organization in order to collect and study information, evaluate bid specifications and drawings, and successfully bid and win projects.
Responsibilities & Duties:
Perform a thorough technical review of all bid documents and agreements, including Request for Proposals (RFPs), initial project design drawings and the interconnection applications in order to:
Confirm that all necessary documents have been provided.
Gain a full understanding of the scope of the project, including scope responsibilities and the project owner's scope responsibilities.
Understand all electrical takeoffs, required materials and, when applicable, civil engineering requirements.
Whenever possible, suggest potential changes to the owner requirements in order to reduce the cost of the project and/or improve the design of the project.
Often develop Requests for Information (RFIs) in order to clarify any unclear or missing information in the RFI and/or bid documents.
Prepare estimates by calculating project takeoffs, scope of work and materials and enter all required information completely and accurately into the estimating system.
Identify and build trust and rapport with qualified suppliers and subcontractors, then coordinate with them to ensure that they have complete and accurate information to provide representative quotes/bids.
Review supplier and subcontractor quotes/bids for completeness and accuracy then negotiate the final price and terms.
Meet with the Executive Project Manager to fully explain the estimate, scope of work, quotes, and offset aspects for the successful transition of the project to the project team.
Utilize, manage, and update company internal cost database and vendor pricing documentation.
Offer suggestions on improving and streamlining the estimating process and take the lead on implementing process improvements.
Required
Qualifications:
Minimum two years of commercial construction experience.
History of generating accurate and successful estimates.
Ability to interpret construction drawings.
Prior experience in working with suppliers and subcontractors, gatherings pricing and building relationships.
Basic knowledge of the construction industry and key principles involved in bid preparation.
Excellent organizational and process management skills.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills and strong collaboration skills with consistent follow-up and follow through.
Effective time management and ability to simultaneously coordinate, manage, and prioritize multiple projects and tasks.
Proficiency in Excel, and ability to learn and become proficient in various industry software (project management software, CRM, design software, estimating software.
Strong attention to detail and accuracy in all work product.
Basic understanding of project management concepts.
A determined persistent, and positive attitude and outlook.
Bachelor's degree or greater.
Preferred, but not required:
Direct experience with estimating solar or electrical projects.
Electrical take off/estimating experience.
Construction field experience.
Knowledge of trending constructability costs in the solar market.
Product purchasing experience.
