The VA Maryland Health Care System (VAMHCS) is a Level I tertiary multi campus teaching facility affiliated with the University of Maryland - School of Medicine and over 100 educational institutions.
Located next to the University of Maryland Medical Center with a walkway connecting the two facilities, the medical center maintains an active affiliation with the University in the sharing of staff, resources, and technology.
Baltimore Veterans Affairs Medical Center is the acute medical and surgical care facility for the VA Maryland Health Care System and offers a full range of inpatient, outpatient and primary care services.
As one of the most modern health care facilities in the country, the medical center offers veterans state-of-the-art medical technology, clinical services, and research programs.
The Geriatric Research Education and Clinical Center (GRECC) Director is responsible for leading, coordinating, developing, and implementing strategies to deliver GRECC research, educational and clinical programs, and activities.
The GRECC Director is responsible for promoting activities to increase basic knowledge of aging, transmit this knowledge to health care providers, and improve the quality of care delivered to geriatric patients.
The GRECC Director provides medical oversight to clinical research projects and evaluates educational programs, curricula, and training efforts.
The GRECC Director is in the Baltimore VA Medical Center and reports directly to the Chief of Staff (COS) through the Deputy Chief of Staff - Clinical Operations.
The position requires occasional travel away from the duty station for local meetings, and infrequent distant meetings and conferences.
Local travel between VAMHCS sites, as the Baltimore GRECC has physical space and staffing in multiple VA Maryland Health Care System (VAMHCS) locations.
Qualifications :
Must hold a clinical doctorate degree (e.
g.
MD, DO, PhD in a clinical discipline) and be at least 5/8 time at VA.
Must have demonstrated extensive skill and experience in clinical geriatrics, research, and administration as well as the ability to attract, motivate, and lead innovative and productive researchers, clinicians, and educators.
Must be credentialed to provide clinical care at VAMHCS and needs to participate in some VA clinical activity.
Must have demonstrated the ability to manage and supervise positions of administrative staff, nursing, and other physicians.
Must have demonstrated the ability to establish effective interpersonal relationships with all levels of medical center personnel and must have demonstrated leadership skills in design and implementation of programs.
Demonstrated teaching ability is required as the physician will be responsible for education of medical students, residents, and fellows.
Maryland licensure is preferred due to affiliation with the University of Maryland Medical Center and the training of residents.
