The Department of Psychiatry has an exciting opportunity for a Counseling Associate to work within the Neuroimaging Research Program, and the First Episode Clinic at the _ Maryland Psychiatric Research Center (MPRC) _. This is a position for both patient care and research. Under supervision of a licensed professional, a Counseling Associate will perform individuals, couples, families, and groups psychotherapy and case management, focusing on individuals with severe mental illness. Candidate for this position will be part of the research program, participating in clinical research projects.

Essential Functions:
Identifies and evaluates patient's psychosocial condition and needs, and determines course of therapeutic treatment.
Conducts individual, group, and family therapy sessions.
Coordinate clients between clinical care and research participation.
Able to maintain confidentiality, privacy, and conduct careful consent for research participants.
Participate in research oriented, standardized clinical diagnosis interview.
Participate in clinical assessments, scheduling and coordination for research participation of clients.
Performs research quality clinical interview for Axis I and II diagnosis and eligibility clarification.
Assessing research data quality and participating in clinical and research imaging data analysis.
Collects clinical data for research projects.
Conduct phone evaluations, clinical assessments, and arrange appropriate referrals for clients of various mental health needs.
Assist in development of treatment plans and healthcare evaluations for variety of client issues.
Consults with therapists, case managers, and researchers.
Document client(s) progress. Maintain case history records.
MINIMUM
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Social Work or related field such as Psychology.
If applicable, Licensed as Social Work Associate (LSWA) in the State of Maryland.
Consultation and/or therapy experience and excellent interviewing skills preferred.
Master's in Social Work, Psychology, or related fields Preferred.
Preferred research experience in psychology or psychiatry, especially magnetic resonance imaging data collection and data analysis.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
Knowledge of Clinical research for first episode schizophrenia and related disorders.
Proficient in understanding and knowledge of best practices in field along with the proper application of diagnostic tools.
Knowledge of psychology or psychiatry, especially magnetic resonance imaging.
Knowledge of federal, state, and local guidelines relative to the administration of social services.
Skill in various interviewing techniques and consultative approaches.
Ability to use measurable and verifiable information for making sound decisions or judgment.
Excellent organizational and project management skills.
Ability to meet situations with tact, diplomacy, understanding, and fairness.
Interpersonal skills and the ability to work as part of a team, as well as with families from diverse ethnic, racial, and social-economic backgrounds.
Verbal/Written communication and presentation skills.
Ability to maintain confidentiality of subjects, information obtained, and client information in accordance with professional standards, HIPAA (Health Information & Accountability Act) and FERPA (Family Education Rights and Privacy Act), and state regulations.
Working knowledge of programming language skills highly preferred.
