The Department of Pharmacy, consistent with the mission of Johns Hopkins Medicine, places a priority on teaching, research and patient care. At Johns Hopkins Hospital, the department is responsible for providing acute care pharmacy services for a diverse population of medical and surgical patients, with additional services provided within the Johns Hopkins Outpatient Center and affiliated clinics. Within the department, there are 34 acute care and primary care clinical pharmacy specialists as well as 25 general and specialized pharmacy residents. Working collaboratively with unit-based, decentralized pharmacists and Hopkins physicians, nurses and other healthcare professionals, these practitioners are responsible for the provision of clinical pharmacy services across a broad range of patient care areas. Currently, services are provided in the areas of anticoagulation, ambulatory care, cardiology, critical care, drug information, emergency medicine, infectious diseases, internal medicine, oncology, pain and palliative care, pediatrics, psychiatry and solid organ transplantation.
Working collaboratively with other members of a multidisciplinary team, the Infectious Diseases Clinical Pharmacy Specialist will be responsible for the provision and oversight of pharmacotherapy for patients on the inpatient HIV ID service and will provide additional support for the hospital antimicrobial stewardship activities as well as general ID consult service. The clinical pharmacy specialist will support physicians, nurses, pharmacists and other care providers in the management of patients requiring acute care within the hospital. They will provide drug information and education to patients, students, residents, pharmacists, and other health care practitioners. They will serve as a preceptor for pharmacy residents of ASHP accredited PGY-1 general practice and PGY-2 specialty practice programs including ID. Faculty appointments are available through affiliations with the College of Pharmacy at the University of Maryland and the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. Additionally, the successful candidate will support drug research conducted by the institution and seek to assume a leadership role in the profession of pharmacy.
Preferred qualifications for this position include the completion of the Pharm.D. degree, a generalized residency in Pharmacy Practice and a specialized residency in Infectious Diseases or HIV.
